Choc Caramel Pretzel Bark | Recipe

By 8:54 AM , ,

I must admit that I am a bit of a sucker buy 2 for $X or 3 for $Y, even if I know I only need one. So when I went to the store to get a snack for a group hang I couldn't stop at one bag of pretzels when I saw a deal for two! Unfortunately both bags of pretzels went uneaten and I ended up with surplus. But I decided to make lemonade out of lemons and try my hand at making some pretzel bark. This was my first time making or even eating bark and it was super easy to make (and eat too!). Thus the moral of the story is that its good to buy deals because it inspires yummy snacks and kitchen creativity!

200 grams bag of pretzels (you might have some left over for snacking)
250 grams choc chips
2 cups sugar
100 grams butter
1/2 teaspoon rock salt

1. Place a sheet a layer of baking paper on a large tray and place a single layer of pretzels on it and sprinkle the salt on them
2. Place the sugar in a medium pot, over medium heat. Do not stir, wait until the sugar begins to melt and turn brown. When this happens, tilt the pot around so that the melted sugar distributes throughout. Do this a few times (but do not stir!) until all the sugar is a golden brown.
3. Remove from heat and mix in the butter
4. Pour over the pretzels, don't worry if you don't get an even coverage
5. Place in 180 degree Celcius oven for 10 minutes
6. Sprinkle on the chocolate, they will begin to melt. Spread what you can then put back in the oven for 1 minute then turn off oven
7. Spread again and place in turned off oven for another 2 minutes
8. Spread out the chocolate and then allow to cool (the fridge will help speed this process)
9. Once set, break into pieces with your hand and enjoy!
