Mejico, CBD | Review
Mejico! Even the title seems fun and I had been hearing good things about this Mexican joint for a while so we paid a visit on Friday night to see what all the fuss was about. I felt smug as the people in front of us got turned away as it the restaurant was too full as I had made a booking the night before (learning point: make a booking! The restaurant gets very busy). We were taken to our table and at 6pm it was already abuzz with chatter.
Starving, we got straight into ordering and between the two of us we ordered the salmon ceviche ($14), as I have been ceviche obsessed lately, the pork tacos ($12) and the lamb adobo ($36) as I heard this was supposed to be one of their signature dishes.
First up we got served two small, juicy soft shelled tacos that my boyfriend really enjoyed and I liked but wished we had ordered a different meat because pork is sometimes a hit and miss with me. But it definitely got our appetite going.
Next up we got served the ceviche and it was delicious and moreish. Definitely kept my ceviche obsession going.
Finally we got served the adoba. I was expecting the Philippines style adobo, covered in a marinade so was surprised to be served quite a dry dish. For $36 this dish was not worth it as all, the taste was fine but it certainly wasn’t anything special or that filling.
Considering we ordered three things and our bill came to $62, we were disappointed that we left hungry and had to go through a drive through on our way home. Yes, most of the dishes we ordered were tasty but you also want to leave a restaurant feeling satiated and we did not. I might return to Mejico for snacks and drinks but certainly won’t be going on an empty stomach.
